en anglais pour dire une obligation,c'est Had to+la base verbale. exemple: Back people had to sit a different section.

pour dire une permission /autorisation,c'est COULD + BE (au prétérit) Allowed: exemple: Black people were allowed/could ride the same bus as Whites.

pour dire une interdiction: c'est COULD NOT /Be (au prétérit) NOt ALLOWED+BASE VERBALE/BE (au prétérit) FORBIDDEN+BASE VERBALE. exemple: it was forbidden to sit with white people.
